Journalists have been warning the public for about five years that former President Donald Trump's dark rhetoric toward the media and his political adversaries will lead to widespread violence and even murder. It didn't take place.
However, two such instances of direct political violence have occurred since President Joe Biden's red-drenched prime-time tirade on September 1. Due to these, a teenager was killed in North Dakota, and a Democratic politician killed a journalist.
Shannon Brandt, age 41, who intentionally struck and killed Cayler Ellingson, age 18, has already been seen. Brandt admitted to killing the teen because of a political disagreement and claimed that he believed Ellingson to be a "Republican extremist." Even so, a quick search of the websites of CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS turned up nothing for the name "Shannon Brandt," Other than in conservative media, the story hasn't received any attention from major publications.
The next incident involved the murder of investigative reporter Jeff German for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Robert Telles, a public administrator, was the subject of an investigation by German into allegations of abuse. Telles had criticized German's reporting on Twitter several times. He was detained and accused of killing German soon after the crime. Yelles, a Democrat, supported Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and attended her CNN town hall during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Yet again, Telles' political affiliation has all but disappeared from stories in the mainstream media. The media has decided to refer to Telles as an elected official only. The Associated Press completely omitted Telles' party identification in a thorough description of the crime and the accusations against him. Top line: National media personnel has gone above and beyond to defend a person accused of killing a fellow employee. It's a level of professional dishonesty uncommon in a well-known field for defending Democrats.
Nevertheless, these two distinct and extraordinarily serious incidents occurred after the incumbent president demanded a full-frontal press against his political rivals, whom he openly referred to as unpatriotic extremists. However, neither Biden nor his administration has been held accountable for this ominous language. As our media has dutifully warned for years, either targeted political rhetoric results in violence or death, or it doesn't. It can't be either, though.
To be clear: If the roles had been reversed, Trump would still be president, and Democrats had been the victims, and cable news would have been nonstop for days. Imagine if Trump or another Republican president delivered a speech like Biden's while Independence Hall was illuminated in blood-red hues and Marines stood on either side of the president. Imagine a Republican elected official killed a journalist who was critical of him soon after. Imagine if a Trump supporter wearing a MAGA hat ran over a teen and told the police that he did it because he thought the teen was an Antifa member without proof. Consider yourself a member of the media of today.
